With over 30 years’ experience as a pharmacist, educator, speaker and author, Tom Viola, R.Ph., C.C.P. has earned his reputation as the go-to specialist for delivering quality continuing education content through his informative engaging presentations. As an international, award-winning speaker, Jo-Anne Jones has done over 1,000 presentations worldwide. Jo-Anne brings life, energy, inspiration, and a dynamic speaking style that has made her a sought-after lecturer in the dental community. Jo-Anne joins the 2024 Dentistry Today CE Leaders for the 14th consecutive year, is a previous DPR Top 25 Women in Dentistry honoree, published internationally and is a 2021 Fellowship Award recipient with the International Academy for Dental Facial Esthetics.

 

Amid preparing to present her extensive research on HPV-related oropharyngeal cancer to her national association, Jo-Anne’s family were dealt a crushing blow of having a family member diagnosed with late-stage HPV-positive tonsillar cancer.

 

Jo-Anne proudly partners with the Oral Cancer Foundation in conveying the urgent need for change in the way we screen for oral and oropharyngeal cancer. Jo-Anne was instrumental in launching the international 'Check Your Mouth' campaign promoting oral self-examination between professional visits.

Mary is an award-winning, dynamic educator, consultant, and health advocate who works with dental and healthcare providers and community organizations to improve health outcomes. Mary’s articles have appeared in the Journal of Public Health Dentistry and American Dental Hygienist’s Association Access. She is the recipient of the 2017 American Association of Public Health Dentistry Award for published research on dental care and the frail elderly, the 2009 Sunstar Award of Distinction, and the 2009 ADHA Crest Excellence in Dental Hygiene Award.

Mary has an MS in Dental Public Health from the University of Iowa’s College of Dentistry and a BS in Dental Hygiene from Loyola University of Chicago. Mary’s experience ranges from directing an evidence-based Dementia Prevention program, researching oral disease in the elderly,  to providing oral hygiene care in nursing facilities and early childhood centers.

About Cindy, PT:  Cindy graduated in 1992 with a Master’s Degree in Physical Therapy from Washington University in St Louis, MO. The majority of her career has been spent in Home Healthcare. She is passionate about helping people maintain their independence, especially when it makes a difference in their ability to remain in their homes. 
 

About Christina, ST:  Christina graduated from Eastern Illinois University with a Master’s degree in Communication Disorders and science. She spent most of her career treating patients in skilled nursing facilities. She enjoys working with individuals with dementia and educating their families. She also likes helping people who have difficulty eating, chewing, and swallowing due to illness or disease.

Dr. Alessandro Villa

Alessandro Villa, D.D.S., Ph.D., M.P.H. is chief of oral medicine, oral oncology and dentistry at Miami Cancer Institute where he also serves as the Program Director of the Oral Oncology Fellowship. In addition, he is a Professor at the Herbert Wertheim College of Medicine, FIU.

 

Dr. Villa specializes in treating oral mucosal and salivary gland diseases, oral precancers and oral complications from cancer treatment. Prior to joining Miami Cancer Institute in 2022, Dr. Villa was an attending physician at the University of California San Francisco (UCSF). He also directed the oral medicine residency programs at UCSF and Harvard.   Dr. Villa’s research focuses on oral dysplasia, oral complications from cancer therapy and prevention of HPV-associated oropharyngeal cancers. He is involved in several clinical trials and has published more than 140 peer-reviewed manuscripts.

Dr. Guy Maytal is Forge Health’s Chief of Integrated Care and Psychiatric Services. In this role, he is leading Forge Health’s initiatives to provide the highest quality care to clients with coexisting medical conditions, and to enhance the interface of Forge Health’s mental health and substance use services with specialties – including primary care medicine, oncology, and others.

​

Dr. Maytal has written widely in his areas of clinical expertise, and has authored and co-authored peer- reviewed papers, review articles, and book chapters in various areas of psychosomatic medicine. Furthermore, Dr. Maytal is a dedicated and passionate teacher who is committed to training early- career clinicians as well as to the ongoing education of practicing clinicians. Dr. Maytal continues to serve as a Clinical Assistant Professor of Psychiatry at Weill Cornell Medical College and has been a Distinguished Fellow of the APA since 2018.

Jill Meyer-Lippert, RDH's career in dentistry spans over 30 years. She is the founder of Side Effect Support LLC, an online resource for cancer patients, family caregivers, and healthcare providers aimed at reducing harmful oral side effects of treatments to improve quality of life and treatment outcomes. 

 

Jill is a 2014 recipient of the Sunstar Americas/RDH Award of Distinction, holds a certificate in Oncology Management from the University of Southern Indiana College of Nursing and Health Professionals, and is an instructor for the National Network of Healthcare Hygienists’ Oncology Certificate program.  She is a member of the Registered Dental Hygienist Advisory Board for the Oral Cancer Foundation and was named one of the “6 Dental Hygienists You Want to Know” by Dimensions of Dental Hygiene magazine in 2022.
